As a person who knows JavaScript relatively well, you can interact with an internet browser and websites in some very advanced ways. MSN Spaces relies heavily on JavaScript to give visitors and blog owners a great experience. For example, when I click on a month in the "Archives" of my blog, I am not redirected to a new location with the information. The information simply pops up in my browser where my blog entries normally appear. Interesting... How does it work? That's not what this is about... The fact that Spaces relies so heavily on JavaScript means that offering us "spacers" the ability to add our own javascript would be a risk. Why? 'Cause people with knowledge like mine, but with malicious intent, would crash things. How much could they crash? I'm certain only the developers of this product can answer that. However, MSN Spaces would be affected by this conduct through the bad reviews of visitors to these spaces. They're also protecting us from any malicious scripts. With the rise in security concerns across the internet over the years, they're just playing it safe, which is a good thing if you've ever been hit by a virus of any kind. I'm not saying that a virus is going to jump out from a website into your computer system (that's up to browser vendors to take care of). As a person who loves to customize everything can tell you, it is nice to visit an entire world of related websites without things following your cursor around or big obnoxious flashing things flying around. To be honest? I think there's another way. But, they wrote it the way they did and they're sticking to it.
